The South Coast Air Qaulity Management District (AQMD) will hold six public workshops in communities across the Southland to seek input and comments on its air toxics study released in January – the draft Multiple Air Toxics Exposure Study III (MATES III), three of which will be in the harbor area.
The study conducted by AQMD is the latest and most sophisticated air toxics research effort ever conducted in Southern California. The results showed that harbor area residents and workers are exposed to lifetime cancer risks ranging from 400 to 2,900 in 1 million. The draft report is online at aqmd.gov,
AQMD will present an overview of the study findings at the workshops and solicit public input and comments on it before finalizing the report. The public review and comment period ends April 4. Send any comments on the MATES III to Dr. Jean Ospital, AQMD Health Effects Officer, at (909) 396-2582 or
